BARS Open Mic Night – Grand Opening

Full Clip on the scene.

Brisbane raised the bar last night with the opening of BARS; an open mic night event that will now be held every Thursday at the Gig Cocktail Bar. Hosted by Knovell Capote and DJ Louie Loco, the aim of the event is to encourage the local hip hop scene and allow anyone to spit out their rhymes in confidence. The event is open to any rapper, beatboxer, or singer, but the majority of the attendees were lyrical performers apart from, of course, Joel Turner, who is well known for his beatboxing skills.

With Louie Loco on the decks, Knovell kicked off the night with his own talent while announcing some basic rules for the mic. Putting it simply, just don’t hate but instead, appreciate. The night brought in quite the crowd with a mixture of new and experienced rappers. Those who took the mic for their verses included Preech, 1000, Proof, Ozi, Levi, Shorty Main, Roberto and even MC Gilbert. Joel also took the mic to bust out some beats for the rappers. One thing was for sure, everyone had their own flow.

So if you missed out and would like to showcase your talent, or just show some support for our local artists, come along to BARS every thursday at the Gig Cocktail Bar.
